Purposes

For WMTCSC to act as:

  • A source of advice for the Organising Committee and National Society hosting the next World Maritime Technology Conference (WMTC).
  • A focus for Member Marine Technology Societies (MMTS) to agree and commit to levels of support for the next WMTC in terms of “Call for Papers”, publicity and advertising.
  • A forum for the exchange of best practice amongst MMTS.
  • A forum for the dissemination, through the WMTC, of new ideas, initiatives, learning and developments effecting the marine environment.

For International Affairs to act as:

  • A forum for debate and the formulation of a WMTCSC wide position on professional and technical issues effecting the marine environment that impact on the MMTS and their members. To this end the WMTCSC may receive and/ or commission papers for on appropriate issues for discussion at the WMTCSC.
  • A professional and technical advisory group to inform International and national organisations and governments on a professional and technical basis with respect to the above WMTCSC positions.

 

Structure

  • The WMTCSC shall consist of a single representative from each of the MMTS. NB: For the purposes of these rules Branches, Divisions and Chapters of a society do not count as separate entities.
  • Additional societies may be asked to join the WMTC as MMTS by a quorum of the WMTCSC at a formally convened meeting of the WMTCSC.
  • A MMTS may leave the WMTCSC after giving the secretariat 3 months notice in writing.
  • Societies may be asked to resign from the WMTCSC by a two thirds majority of members at a formally convened meeting of the WMTCSC.
  • The WMTCSC shall be chaired by the Chairman of the last WMTC Organising Committee.
  • A Quorum shall be formed for WMTC matters when more than one third of the WMTCSC members are present at a formally convened meeting, and for International affairs issues when more than 50% of the WMTCSC members are present at a formally convened meeting.
  • A Formally Convened Meeting is one that has been called by the Secretariat to the WMTCSC and has been notified to MMTS by e-mail/letter at least two months in advance of the meeting. Members can be represented at the meeting in person, by teleconference or by proxy through the chairman.
  • The Secretariat shall be found from the MMTS organising the next WMTC.
  • Proxy voting through the Chairman is allowed for any issues for which supporting documents were sent out with the meeting agenda. Any issues raised at the meeting which require formal voting will be actioned at the next meeting.
  • The above rules may only be changed by a two thirds majority of WMTCSC members.

 

Entry Requirements

  • Societies joining the WMTCSC must commit to participation in and support of the WMTC conference through encouraging their members to respond to call for papers and by promotion of the event in journals, magazines and websites.
