The World Maritime Technology Conference Steering Committee (WMTCSC) was established in response to the need identified at the first ever WMTC which took place in San Francisco in October 2003.
A roundtable session at this event determined that there was a need for greater collaboration between maritime organisations at an international level.
The primary aims of WMTCSC are to act as:
- A forum for debate and the formulation of a WMTCSC wide position on professional and technical issues affecting the marine environment that impact on the MMTS and their members. To this end the WMTCSC may receive and/ or commission papers for on appropriate issues for discussion at the WMTCSC.
- A professional and technical advisory group to inform International and national organisations and governments on a professional and technical basis with respect to the above WMTCSC positions.
The secondary aims of the WMTCSC are to act as:
- A source of advice for the Organising Committee and National Society hosting the next World Maritime Technology Conference (WMTC).
- A focus for Member Marine Technology Societies (MMTS) to agree and commit to levels of support for the next WMTC in terms of “Call for Papers”, publicity and advertising.
- A forum for the exchange of best practice amongst MMTS.
- A forum for the dissemination, through the WMTC, of new ideas, initiatives, learning and developments effecting the marine environment.
